Book Talk–Ira Sleeps Over

Everyday before the read aloud is read, a student completes a book talk on a book that they have read and really enjoyed. Today’s book talk was completed by Jessaca Shepherd. She read the book Ira Sleeps Over in small group reading. She really enjoyed the book.

Lessons on Clouds

Mrs. Lori Cingaloni came to Drew Central second grade to teach a lesson on clouds. Students were very active in learning how to make a their own cloud. All you need is an empty one liter bottle, hot water, and a lighted match. Place the water in the bottle and throw a lighted match into the bottle and seal it with the lid. Have students to slowly squeeze the bottle to watch the clouds begin to form.

Static Electricity Lesson

Quick Reads

Every morning, we engage in fluency/comprehension practice. For about ten minutes, we do Quick Reads. Below is the process we use every morning.

Locate important words in the passage. (This helps students learn to skim a passage)
Go over comprehension questions. (This gives the student a purpose to read the passage.)
Listen to teacher fluently read. (This is a model for the student in how to read correctly.)
Students read with the teacher.
Students buddy read with another student.
Answer comprehension questions.
