Poland Day 3
July 1st, 2009 by Lou

I learned this morning that the sun comes up at like 4 in the morning. Being daylight, I finally forced myslef to get up at 5 (thinking it was much later.) I ate breakfast and then went back to bed. At about 8:30, Jeff and Tracy went around and woke everyone up. So I got back up.
We left for the Park Jordana (kind of funny because we have Jordan Park in Monticello). We walked a long way to get there. I am just glad I wasn’t the one carrying the equipment. As soon as we go to the park, we set up a tent while the girls passed out brochures about the camp to the kids. We had an awesome turn out. It was probably around 40 that showed up. The girls had to teach them basics (like how to hold a bat). Baseball is nonexistent in Krakow. The kids had a blast and were wanting to come back tomorrow.
After kids camp, we went to the Old Square for lunch. We ate a place called Kuchnia. It was our first taste of Polish food. I order the Medallion + zeimniaki. It was the only normal (almost American) food on the menu. Basically, it was a fried chicken patty and potatoes. It was very good. I had water and coke for drinks. Yes, even the water was in a bottle. I save the bottles for Michael. He loves glass bottles. While at the restaurant, we also experienced public restrooms. You had to pay for it. Can you imagine having to pay to go to the bathroom? After eating, we went to eat ice cream.
After ice cream, Jeff, Carolyn, Becca S., Becca T, and I went shopping on the square. I bought all the souvenirs for Michael, Ashton, and Kaylee. I got them all a t-shirt. I also got Kaylee a doll and Ashton a wooden sword. We also walked around and played with the pigeons. Becca T actually let the pigeons sit on her.
After realzing that we separated from the rest of the group, we decided we were lost. We hiked our way back to the tram. Luckily before that tram ride the other group members showed up.
Next event on the agenda was the Krakow Tigers baseball camp. About 15 guys showed up. This is good because they just started it about 3 weeks ago. As I said before baseball is nonexistence in Krakow. All the boys that came out are college age. They were very responsive to the girls. It was a successful camp. The boys finally realized that the girls meant business.
After the camp, we all went back to take showers before eating supper. After everyone got cleaned up, we drove to KFC (much better that the one in Monticello). I got the chicken strips. You can never go wrong with chicken, at least that is my philosophy.
When then came back to the hostel for deotional and free time. Speaking of free time it is like 2 in the morning here. (Must go to bed). Yeah, I think this is where I am going to leave you hanging.
