If One Could Only Teach
January 12th, 2009 by Lou

Today has been one of those days.  Thank God this was not the day the principal comes to observe.

My morning started off with a mother explaining that her child was put on new medicine.   Which is great?  Right at the moment you are hoping that the medicine actually works and doesn’t give bad side effects.  Sometimes certain kinds of medicines can make the child sleepy, angry, defiant, etc.   Luckily this one turned out to be fine.

Next, a student begins crying in my class.  His father had emergnecy surgery on his appendix Saturday.  He was very worried.  So I had to calm him down.

After this of course, the students were curious as to what was wrong.   So I gave the a science lesson and explained it.  Then I had another student begin crying because his grandpa was just diagnosed with cancer.   So he starts crying.   Among trying to calm him down, my other 13 students began telling me their problems (typically of elementary students).

Needless to say our morning didn’t go quite so well.  To calm the students down, I had to let them make get well cards for people.

TOMORROW WILL BE A BETTER DAY!!!
