HORRIBLE Customer Service

I am so mad right now at the McDonald’s in Monticello. I had horrible customer service Monday morning and I refuse to ever eat there again. I always get bad service there. I usually get the slow service, no straws for the drinks (or drink carrier for 4 drinks and you are the only one in the car), and no thank yous. This day was worse than that. This was the day that put the icing on the cake.

You can judge for yourself but I think the lady taking my order was completely out of line.

I pulled through the drive through and gave my order. I order the sausage egg McMuffin meal and the sausage biscuit meal. Michael mentions to me that the credit card machine is broke. They had a sign but it was well above the height of my small car. If I had a SUV or truck, I would have seen it. So I told her I guess she would have to cancel my order because all I had was a credit card. The order taker kept asking me what I had about four times. I told her the four times with each time get a little louder because obviously she couldn’t hear me. On the last time, I told her she proceeded to talk about me without turning the intercom off. She said, “If I yell at her one more time she would come out there and beat my &*@. ” I proceeded to ask what are you going to do. Then all of a sudden it was silent.

Michael is sitting in the car thinking “Oh no! What is Lou fixing to do?” I put my car into first gear and proceeded to the nearest parking spot and got out of the car. Michael says, “Don’t do it. Forget about it.” My temper usually gets the best of me. This situation did. I just simply told Michael I wasn’t letting this one go.

I go in and ask for a manager. It took her five minutes to get to me. This is what I told her.

You need to make sure that when you order taker is going to talk about a customer that they turn the intercom off. She told me that if I scream at her one more time that she is going to come out there and beat my *&%. I am not mad but want to tell you that it is very unprofessional and that most customers would be very upset. I proceeded to tell her that this would be the last time that she sees me coming through her drive through or her dining room. She just lost my business and that I was heading to Sonic for my breakfast.

The manager basically smiled and was laughing it off. I never got an apology. By the way I have filed a complaint with McDonald’s.com. Maybe they care.

By the way this was the nice Lou talking to the manager. Normally, I would have been in her face with a few choice words myself.

So next time, you want to eat McDonald’s in Monticello, think again. They don’t care about you. Just go to Ameca and Hosea will take care of you.

UPDATE:  I was still angry after I wrote this post, so I went to the McDonald’s website and filed a complaint.   I received a voicemail the very next day from the district manager.  He asked for me to call him back, so I did.   He said this would not be tolerated and he was headed to Monticello to find out who the manager on duty and the lady in the drive-thru was.  He apologized over and over again.    He also gave me his direct number to reach him in his office.   He told me that he hopes we eat there again.  He also said that if I have any more problems, I was to contact him immediately at his office.   He thanked me and apologized some more.  So Mr. Scott at McDonald’s turn the situation around.   Hopefully, they can get things straightened out.   I just couldn’t believe that he called me directly to get more information on the situation and was  actually going to reprimand the ones involves.  Way to go Mr. Scott.  My son may actually be able to go to McDonald’s again.

I had a completely comparible story from Taco Bell. A manager told me that it was MY fault that I didn’t look in the bag to confirm my order being right, and not their fault for doing it wrong.

There were several other out of line statements made, and I called in a complaint to their 1-800 number. I was promised food certificate coupons. That was about 2 weeks ago. No coupons are here.

I am SICK of our town’s service. Other than Huddle House, Ameca, Breaker, and Sonic, I pretty much NEVER get a nice worker. (One that actually SMILES and says your welcome when I say thank you)

I know how you and Shelley both feel about service around here and it stinks…I think it is so funny that McDonalds sign says they are “NOW HIRING SMILING FACES”…I will believe that when I encounter one!! Haha!

Great post Lou and so very true!!

Oh yea and I think that district manager guy was there the day we ate and he was taking the workers one by one and talking to them…you are too much Lou….guess that why I love ya

Lou I totally agree with you! My first job out of high school was working for the Branding Iron as a waitress. Because of this I tend to be alot harsher on people who work at food establishments.

One time my husband and I went to McDonald’s and I ordered one meal deal and the person taking the order asked what all come with that deal. I got perturbed. When my husband ordered his meal deal she asked the same thing…what comes with that. I was sitting on the passenger side of the car and I quickly said “you can cancel the order” and of course she said why. Also, I ALWAYS order the quarter pounder w/cheese deal with pickles only. Out of 10 times they will get it wrong 8. It’s like you said, they are not friendly.

I’ve had good experiences with Wendy’s all of the time and it is hit or miss with Popeye’s and Taco Bell. For the sit down restaurants to me Piggy Sue’s is the most challenging. One night my husband and I went there to eat and out of 3 different steaks we ordered they had NONE of them. We ended up leaving and it took us about a year and a half before we went back. We’ve gone to Pappy’s Catfish a couple of times but there was hardly any food out on the buffet. Before Cowboy’s moved the service was slow.

Anyway, I guess this is the disadvantage we have by living in a small town.

Our McDonald’s in Warren is just as bad if not worse. I have gotten on the McDonalds.com website and complained several times and promised coupons and what not and never received. A month or so ago, I went at 8:30 to get breakfast and they had not even opened yet. The workers were stuck outside b/c the manager was the only one with a key or something. Here lately, they have been doing better, but I heard they had new management. Popeye’s is a place I love, but always so slow. I have to wait a good 10-15 min everytime I go!
